The YQX Running Club has made a major upgrade to how races are delivered in Gander and Central Newfoundland. In December, the club completed the purchase of two Race Result Ubidium timing bundles, bringing professional-grade RFID race timing fully in-house.

This is the same class of timing technology used at large regional and national events, and it gives the club direct control over accuracy, reliability, and race-day operations. With two systems, YQXRC can confidently support multiple race distances, split locations, and raise the standard across every event it delivers.

This investment was made possible in part through external funding support, including $5,000 from Newfound Gold and $9,600 from the Active NL Fund. That support directly strengthens local sport infrastructure and helps ensure high-quality experiences for runners throughout the region.

Owning this equipment moves YQXRC beyond simply organizing races and firmly into operating a scalable, professional race platform. It enables faster results, tighter quality control, and the technical foundation needed to grow into larger fields, endurance events, and multi-day race weekends.

This acquisition marks another step in building Gander as a trusted destination for well-run road races, where athletes can show up, race hard, and trust the finish line.
